Final Projects

Layers Project

for this project I chose to create a multi-layered clock with working movement and fake gears to create the aesthetic of an older open face clock. the final project came out great and is currently hanging in my room at school. the only problem with the final design that I did not consider is that not all the numbers line up perfectly with where they should be on the clock face. most of the numbers are correct however one or two of the numbers are off by about 2 minutes. overall I am proud of what I have created and will continue to display and use this as a functional clock.

Lantern Project

For this project I completed a candle holder that projects trees and hexagons onto the wall as well as illuminating the lantern itself. This project had many blocking points that I had to overcome, the laser cutter being incorrectly setups costed me a day of cutting, having wood that was too thick forced me to travel home and use a planar. After all this was done I am fairly happy with the results, had this project lasted longer than one term I likely would have tried to make the outside a flush piece of wood by engraving the design 90% into the wood, only illuminating the design when the candle/light bulb is on.

Altered Toys Project

For this project I chose to create lego bricks with the added alteration of objects inside the legos. these legos act as a symbol for the building blocks that make up me, pulling inspiration from things that I have done and care about. I created multiple designs and sizes for the pieces along with original models for most of the lego bricks. the brown brick has a football inside that I created to represent my time I spent playing football and all I have learned from the sport. the green piece has lacrosse stick representing the same for lacrosse. this green lego is also a different size as the others being only 1X4. the gray lego has a laptop inside representing my major (computer science) and my future going into a career. the red lego represents a sleeping dog for my dog I have at home, a yellow lab named kelso. this brick is also a different size being only 2×2. the bronze piece has a sitting dog along with multiple dogs as I tried a different style for the dog Lego brick. Special thanks to Thingiverse for the 3d models of the dogs and the lacrosse sticks, all other models were designed and made by me.

I appreciate that you took the time to stain the clock. I would say the extra time you spent on that definitely paid off.

I love the slight variations in color on the clock piece. It really gives off an aged feel and it looks super cool.
