Final Projects – Andrew Roush

on

Over all I’m pretty happy with how these came out. Some were unlikely to work and experiments for learning, if it isn’t perfect its to be expected.

For my layers project I made a layered version of the 3lb combat robot I was making for the final project. This came out really well, I love the detail and the exposed internal features. It is fragile, but its art, it can be fragile. The layered wood gives it a nice rustic look and the char from the laser gives it a aged sense so it looks like an old relic.

The lantern project isn’t perfect, but there was definitely a science experiment. The goal was to be able to have the light shine through the images and have the engraving on the inside. Between the engraving settings on the laser, and some extremely warped wood stock, it just didn’t work. So the engraving is now on the outside which looks pretty nice. The engraving over the kerf bend went a lot better than expected and doesn’t look unnatural either.

For my final project, the altered toys project, I “altered” the hex bug Battlebot toys. Though the one I made is less of a toy and is built with the intent to also compete in a 3lb combat robot competition. While I was planning on having all the electronics working to be able to drive it, it has some electrical gremlins. I’m happy with how it looks and works, some things aren’t quite final so things will eventually line up better. It should look nice once its scuffed and scraped.

I think the wooden battle bot is super cool! might not hold up too well in the ring tho!

I really love the amount of detail you incorporated into your layers project! With how many layers you did, the depth of the piece is eye-catching and it provides a lot of contrast.

I like how your layer and 3D print project overlap. It really is impressive how many layers you used to create the wooden battle bot.
