Andrew Roush Introduction

Hello, I’m Andrew Roush! I’m from Austin Texas and study robotics engineering here at WPI.

I don’t have tons of art experience but I feel like I apply my art creativity in ways many people don’t. Since most of my work is in more technical modeling, 3D CAD, many people don’t care how their models look when they done as long as they work. I’ve been known to spend way more time than I should on aesthetics making it look just right, or changing geometry just because I don’t like how it works. Everything I design ends up being a piece of art eventually. In terms of 2D art I took the essential’s of art class, but haven’t done much digital 2D art. Most of the 2D art I have done is derived from 3D art. In high school I made keychains for my high school robotics team by rastering a rendering of our robot into some thing plywood. You could say I don’t do things for the purpose of making art, I just work art into whatever I’m doing. My most recent “art” project is my 3 pound combat bot. Many of you have seen Battlebots, its very similar but the rules are a bit more loose. You would think that the entire design of a combat bot is dictated by constraints but there is a great deal of freedom when you have full control over the design. For this bot I actually have an entirely new weapon simply because it looks better, mathematically its almost the same. First revision is on the left, newest on the right.
