For my layers design I thought of making a windows screen with multiple tabs. I plan to laser cut this all in wood. Everything that has a red outline will be cut and placed in a different layer/height. In the last image was the first edit I made in in a photo editing software. I painted them in inkscape with different shades of black white and gray. The Laser will do engravings based on the shades and color. I hope this looks cool!
What is your plan for supporting the different layers of the tabs on the windows screen once it is put together (how are you going to make sure that the wood will have enough attachment points to the background)?
I plan to add a few supports and make sure that the tabs are glued and tapped well. Something like a really small stick to hold them that way they dont fall.
How do you plan on showing some of the finer details such as those on the cards?
I hope that the laser does a good job on making those details. I honestly have to do different tests to try and do some of those details. If not I also plan to paint them on
(yessssss windows xp rules) there are a lot of small details on this piece. how large do you plan on making it? how will you make details like the icon stand out against the background?
I plan to make it as small as I can. I dont want to make it really big but also not too small. I plan to make a lot of different layers to make them stand out. Same thing with different color engravings. I plan to do a lot of different colored engravings.
What made you decide to do these specific tabs? Also what is your plan for framing all of these pieces together?
Honestly I tried to remember what tabs I used to use back when I was a kid. I remember using a really old computer at my dads work. I would watch a lot of youtube and play Solitare and use paint a lot. I also wanted the old Windows vibe. For the framing I plan on just gluing them and praying they stick. They are going to be pretty thin cuts so I dont think they will be too heavy.
What kind of reaction were you hoping to receive from the viewers? Is there a specific audience you were hoping to reach?
Are you going to add color via paint or dye after?
What specifically inspired this idea? Was there any reason that those specific programs were chosen for the tabs?
