Altered Toys Design – Ana

on

My idea for this toy is to make a somewhat realistic version of the character piranha plant. I took a venus flytrap and then tried to combine it with the piranha from Super Mario games. I plan to make the jaws movable with servos and also paint them like in the Mario games. I am honestly not sure if I am going to continue with this design but this is what I have for now. My 3D modeling skills are poor so hopefully with more practice it will look better

An idea to make the jaws move is to secure the top jaw to the stem, hinge the two jaws at the back, then run a string up the stem and around the top jaw through a vertical hole and then tie it off to the bottom jaw. This would allow you to hide a servo in the pot and then gravity would fight the string to allow you to move it both ways.

cool idea! what program have you been working with this far? i think if you want to take a more “realistic” approach to a piranha plant it might be worth trying to sculpt some parts in a non-CAD software like maya (which is installed on FL222 and Zoo Lab computers). Rounding out the top of the plant is the biggest thing i think might help to make it look more like a piranha plant, but you could also try adding detail to the inside of the mouth!

how large do you plan on making this, this could be cool at different sizes for a keychain or as a desk piece
