Layers Design

I was really inspired by the forest layer piece we discussed in class. I really liked how each element was a different depth of the forest, had its own color and texture, and really showed what you would find the deeper into the woods you go. It also gave it a very mystical kind of energy to it. I wanted to capture that and go a different route with a sunset. I think this could be really cool with either different colored wood or different colored acrylics. There will be mountains that can have a lot of layers and depth and then the rays of the sun would also be on different layers. A few clouds would be attached to the first layer/frame and the others scattered with different layers. I love how the sky always melts at sunset so I want to capture these colors melding together to form a perfect sunset.

A rough outline of the final product

I think I will go into greater detail, really etching into the mountains and possibly adding another layer to the sun to give more depth.

I was also inspired by the Vitruvian Man by DaVinci and thought I could do a shadow portrayal of it with different acrylic layers. The sketch is pretty messy as I just thought of it but I would go more into detail and make it more my own. I added a few more layers and thought this could be a cool take on an old piece.

How many layers will this piece contain? Will there be a stand or base for the layers?

There will be around 5-6 layers so I can add little details and create more depth. There is a base layer which is the first and I will adhere all the layers together under that one.

How do you plan to construct the piece? Is it going to be like a box diorama or will it be pieces glued on top of each other?
