Intros and Portfolios – Amanda Jones

My name is Amanda and I am from Wayne, New Jersey. I am a senior Computer Science major. For me, art is not only an outlet for how I am feeling, it is a release of energy and way to have fun!

Growing up, I was encouraged to pursue as many hobbies as I found interesting. And I found a lot of things interesting. My dad was very into photography, art, and music, which led me to follow his lead. Music has always been my main passion, from discussing different bands and songs to learning to play multiple instruments. I also loved the beauty and intricacy of photography. From there, I tried out many different mediums like painting, drawing, writing, and fashion. In high school, I combined my love for computer science with my love for art by taking multiple CAD classes. I loved the creative aspect and had a lot of fun designing and modeling objects and 3D printing them.

At WPI, I have mainly been focusing on music. I have taken multiple production classes which have been really fun. I also joined an improv comedy group, which I never really considered a type of art until I really thought about it. At the time, it was just me having fun, but that is overall what art means to me. This year I wanted to branch out and see what else I could dive into and what new methods I could learn.
