First Cut – Amanda Jones

This was a super cool experience! I have never used the laser before so I really enjoyed it. I only had the time to cut out Drawing 1 but I plan to cut out Drawings 2 and 3 soon. I really liked how it came out, I only used 30 power for the drawing. I might use a slightly lower power next time because the lines here are very close together and I would like a little less of the burnt smudge, but I am still happy with it!

The detail an texture you created brings the piece to life. I really like the way you simplified some of the shapes to make the scene clear but still interesting.

this is cool! i love the shape of the piece. it makes it so much more interesting than a box frame would and provides an extra layer of depth to what is technically a flat engraving. the wobbly lines in the engraving – althought maybe not intentional, i don’t know – also add a cool sense of motion to the piece!

I appreciate the way you used perception in your design to tell a story.

I am struck by the way you developed a picturesque type of piece using cuts. It looks very interesting, and I enjoy the posing of the person in the piece.

I am struck by the way you were able to add depth without any raster! You can tell that there is a foreground and background which is really impressive.
