For my design, I was thinking of creating a projector style piece, where the light source is in one direction (or all) and it would project the image of horse. But the whole piece will rotate around the light, which will(not) create an illusion of a galloping horse.
I thought about it, but it would be very hard to match the flickering of the light(time on vs time off) to the spin rate of the model, and I don’t know how to control either of those variables.
What do you plan to do with the horse cut out section? will there be acrylic or cardstock behind it or will you be able to see into the center of the lantern?
i actually considered making a projection style piece but didn’t have the time to devote to making it rotate. i think you could easily just get a turntable to rotate it, or maybe have it hang and spin it some way? i think this is a very neat concept and if you figure it out i may have to ask for tips!
How do you plan on making the piece rotate?
That is a very good question
Do you plan to have the light flicker or do something weird to enhance the illusion?

What are you planning for the rotating base and how is it going to attach to the rest of the lantern?

Will the light be focussed to one “frame” at a time or just illuminate all of them and have the focus come from which frame is facing the user?
