Lantern Project
For my lantern project, I wanted to make a lantern with a somewhat spherical shape to it. I settled on a dodecahedron because I was fascinated by the geometric pattern. After the initial design, I decided to give it a rustic theme. I picked out a hemp rope wrapped cord and an LED light bulb that mimics flames. I diffused the light by sticking vinyl to the inside of the lantern.


Layers Project
For my layers project assignment I wanted to incorporate moving parts into my design. I decided on implementing gears with spirals to create an optical illusion. I also 3D printed many of the parts to allow my project to move with minimal friction. This included 3D printed bearings using wood PLA filament and a drive belt printed out of TPU. Although there were a few challenges with this design, it functions as I intended and all of the gears spin with ease!



Altered Toys
For my altered toys project, I took more of an engineering approach at this prompt, but I do consider engineering to be its own form of art. I modified an existing Lego RC truck that I had previously built back in high school. I wanted to add a rear differential into the truck, but a typical Lego one did not fit and would have taken a lot of work to make it fit. I decided to “alter” this Lego part and design my own. I am very happy with the fit and it works as intended.

I really like how you incorporated the rope to the cord which isn’t something I would’ve thought to do, it really helps complete the look.
The lantern is so awesome. The rope was such a creative way to hang the lantern.
