Final Projects

Layers Project

My layers project is based on a picture of Vernal Falls in Yosemite that I took with my best friend. I wanted to make something out of paper because of the color choices, low cost, and ease of assembly/finishing. I also based this design off of the works by Hazel Glass because I like how she captures the shapes and depth of nature with paper.

Lantern Project

I was inspired to make a lantern based on the movie Tangled because of the significance of lanterns in that movie and because it is my best friend’s favorite Disney movie. The design is Rapunzel releasing a lantern with many lanterns floating in the background. I chose warm toned tea lights as my light source because it matches the warmth of this scene. I used plywood for this project because I had some leftover and thought it would match the warm/natural feel of the scene.

Altered Toy Project

My concept for this project was to combine my dream career as a child with my current career trajectory. To do this, I created a ballerina “music” box by designing a gearbox which spins a ballerina. This reflects my childhood dream of being a professional dancer and my current desire to be a mechanical engineer.

I just want to note that I like how you incorporated 8 different sides into your lantern, it really helps the design flow. I also really like the effect that the rectangles all throughout the piece creates with the beams of light coming outwards.

The ballerina design is elegant and beautiful. Although the detached arm wasn’t intentional it adds a story to your piece. Amazing work!

Your design and execution for the lantern project is absolutely incredible. 8 Sides takes a lot of work, and it definitely shows!
