My layers project is a topological map of my section of my home town of Woodstock Connecticut. I used different depths/powers of raster engraving to create the different layers with the different physical heights but also the different shades of burnt effects on the wood. I also vector engraved most of the roads and vector cut the major roads and the bodies of water so that when I glued all the pieces to a blue paper background the water would have its own blue layer.

My lantern project took inspiration from my favorite game called Destiny 2. The game features a huge variety of characters and destinations and assets but I chose one of the enemy characters called a Servitor because its “eye” is naturally supposed to emit light. To implement this design I used maker case to create designs for a finger jointed box which I then laser cut out of some cardboard I had. I then glued some purple paper to the inside of the section of the box that had the design. The lighting is meant to come from your phone’s flashlight so that you can adjust the brightness and so that it is more of a point light because the eye in the center is supposed to be the brightest spot.

My altered toy project also took inspiration from Destiny 2. Whereas the Servitor from the lantern is from an enemy faction called the Eliksni, this design called a Harvester is from an enemy faction called the Cabal and it is used to deploy troops in the field. I technically didn’t design this model myself because I extracted it from the local game files but I did have to make considerable adjustments because the model was only ever meant to be used in animation and digital environments and as such it was not printable by default because it wasn’t watertight, had intersecting faces and a ton of reversed normals. Regardless, once the model was repaired I used my printer and some red PLA filament to print the Harvester which I thought was fitting because the faction of Cabal that make heavy use of that ship are called the Red Legion.

I like that you added a blue water layer for your project. It gives it more depth even though there is only a little bit of water.
The shading on your layers projecting is so interesting and adds nice depth.
I really like the organic and dynamic shapes in your layers project
The several different shades of color in your lantern project compliment each other very well.
I really like how clean your lantern came out. My brother’s a big fan of Destiny 2 so I’m familiar with the character.
