I was able to get some time on the laser and begin to cut out some of the pictures for my lantern. I am quite happy with how this is coming together. I ordered the supplies needed for lighting up my lantern.
One question that I have is if I should diffuse the light in any way or let the full amount of light shine through all of the holes?
Here is part of the lantern dry fit together. The fit is a little tight, but I am happy with this. I can still get it together just fine and it will be very strong when also glued together. Ignore the few triangles that did not fully get cut, the wood was not perfectly flat and I still need to cut them out. This is the bulb that I ordered. I feel like the flame effect should look really cool inside of my lantern. This is the light socket cord that I ordered. The rustic wrap on the cord will match the aesthetic of my lantern quite well.
I noticed how you are making sure that every aspect of your lamp has the same vibe. I was wondering what method you are going to use to put together your lamp (superglue, wood glue, etc…). In my opinion, I think that you should have some kind of paper on the inside surface of your lamp to help diffuse the light.
I think using tissues paper or another paper would preserve the fire look and maybe even improve upon it because you wouldn’t be able to see the bulb. Does your design have a cutout for the light socket cord?
I like the patterns on your lantern i think they look pretty cool! Do you plan to paint the wood? I think you should let the light shine through as bright as possible!!
Hmm I feel like since you are using a flame-like light, it would look really nice diffused as fire is usually a bit diffused. But, if this is meant to cast shadows, it would also look really cool with a super bright light! Maybe you could try to make a removable diffuse layer? This is a super cool design and I love how attentive you are to shapes fitting together and even getting a tight fight on the pieces!
I like the intricate design on each of the pentagons! How big will the final product be? In my opinion, a diffuse effect might be nice because it can make the pattern show really well in the dark.
Normally I would say diffuse the light, but I think with the light you chose it might not be needed. I think think the specific bulb you chose will diffuse it itself. This is a super cool shape you have! I’d love to see it assembled.
Similar to what Andrew Said, I really like the way that the light would look as is, and I don’t think a ton of light dispersion is necessary. Super cool Piece!
