The artists I drew inspiration from for my layers design were Hazel Glass, Shadowfox, and Gabriel Schama. The elements from Hazel Glass that served as inspiration was that a scene was created from the layers and that the top layer was either a part of the piece or provided a view into the world within it. As for Shadowfox, it was the use of paint being added to layers to add more detail as well as that the top layer for several pieces served as a case for the piece, and in some cases related to the piece. Similarly, Gabriel Schama’s use of the top layer for the outline and case of the piece as it began to get into the intricate bottom layers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From these inspirations I made the top layer of the piece be a shape relating roughly to the piece. The shape is water drops and the scene that was created was a beach scene. For the very back layer and throughout, smaller details would be added by hand by paint\/marker\/pen depending on the material I used. Similar to Hazel Glass, I’m considering using paper\/cardstock which would be easier to have each layer be a different color then if I were to try to paint all the wood or even trying to layer acrylic properly. Another inspiration for the overall shape of the material (a square with rounded edges) comes from looking at my fellow classmates submissions when we were meant to add comments and statements of meaning to them. I found I really liked when the cut square was changed to have the rounded edges so I’m thinking of incorporating that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hazel Glass \u2013 I wasn\u2019t able to copy any of the images but one piece I liked was Nocturnal Vista which shows the moon through a cave. This served as an inspiration for my piece. It looks like a film was used to allow light to pass through the moon and some stars. In my piece I cut out the sun and the moon in the way back entirely so that whatever is behind it is seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shadow Fox \u2013 I wasn\u2019t able to copy any of the images but some of the pieces were the wolf piece that was partially cut to reveal a wolf in the woods and the triangular and diamond shaped pieces with the trees\/forest shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
