Edit:<\/strong> I decided to completely change my design after thinking about it for a while, so here’s my new design. The inspiration and style is still pretty much the same. I’m taking inspiration from Tomsky, creating a 2d piece out of multiple different layers, each representing a color or object. The backdrop will probably be transparent blue acrylic to give off an icy look (same color material, the difference will come from the stacking. It’s also mostly colored that way to create contrast in the design.) The penguins themselves will be hardwood, and will probably be either stained or painted to create the colors. For the actual penguins, they will be built with the black being the lowest layer, then the white, and then the orange\/yellow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below this is information about my original design, which I decided to scrap.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my preliminary design for the layers project I decided to make a wall mounted artwork with a mix of sci-fi and fantasy themes. I took inspiration primarily from Tomsky, particularly his method of building a 2 dimensional drawing and adding depth through its layers. I also plan to incorporate different colors of wood, either by using distinct colors of hardwood or by painting them in order to distinguish between colors and layers, much like Tomsky. I eventually plan to add much more geometric detail within the wings, similar to the piece I posted below by Shadow Fox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
