Hi everyone! My name is Iris and I am a sophomore Environmental and Sustainability studies major here at WPI. I am from Northampton MA where I attended a waldorf school for many years. I was a pretty art oriented kid but by attending a waldorf school, art became an even bigger part of my life. Most of the pictures I included are the final products from school assigned projects (minus the paintings and red eye). Once I got to WPI I was happy to learn that I could continue taking art classes to grow my portfolio, the self portrait is from the figure drawing class I took in C term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s safe to say that art is and will always be a huge part of my life. When I was only 4 months old my mom would give me paintbrushes and paper as an activity and after a few months I had learned how to actually use them. I enjoy all formats of creativity I have tried so far but traditional 2D mediums are definitely my favorite, which is why I am excited and nervous to try digital and 3D art in this class, as it is all completely new to me. In the past I have participated in performing plays, musicals, and wrote and recited a Lyceum Lecture in the style of transcendentalists, however, I have found I prefer to create in my own space and be free to show it to others once its done and there is less pressure not to make a mistake. Although, sometimes the best thing about true art is that there are no mistakes, only “happy little accidents!” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
