Hi, I\u2019m Jakob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a 5\u20199\u201d white male who grew up in the Boston suburbs. That being said, like everyone, that does not even start to describe who I am. I think the question \u201cwho are you\u201d is very interesting. Sometimes the answer is simply \u201cJakob\u201d and sometimes the answer takes a lifetime just to start to answer. I think the answer \u201cI\u2019m Jakob\u201d is a pretty good start though. You may notice that my name is spelt with a K. I like to say that that is because my dad is dyslexic but in reality, it\u2019s just because my parents are ~quirky~. A lot of who I am today, which is only a small sliver of who I am, comes from my experience in high school. Before high school was middle school, a place where I did not belong. After school I would fill my time making things and building a small wood shop in my garage. I did some woodworking, I learned to weld, and I learned to laser cut and 3D print. Making felt right, school felt wrong. With my amazing supportive and wonderful parents, we began to find new schools that would foster my creative and ADHD as hell brain. After some poking we found a School<\/em> called NuVu studio in Cambridge, MA. At NuVu, there are no classes, no grades, no tests, no homework, nothing. Instead, we worked on two week projects all day. These projects were anything between sculpture art to animation to engineering projects to design explorations. The possibilities were endless. At NuVu, my creative brain grew and grew. Every project taught me how to think, how to communicate, how to ideate and more. At NuVu I grew into who I am today. So, to start to answer your question, I\u2019m Jakob and this is me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              I have always had an appreciation for art. Not as much old oil paintings or marble statues, but sculpture art. I was first introduced to kinetic sculptures at the Arthur Ganson exhibit at the MIT museum. I fell in love with the delicate yet powerful wire sculptures that so elegantly moved around. One of my favorites is his piece \u201cAlone\u201d which is a tall poll with a platform at the top and an open wire gearbox and mechanism at the bottom. Sitting off the edge of the platform is a tiny man who\u2019s head turns back and forth. A few years later, I had the opportunity to meet Arthur, he showed me how to use his wire tools and I spent two weeks working on a similar peace. For mine there was a tiny bird flying around in a circle flapping its wings. It was all made by wire and powered by a little hand crank. The end goal was to have a second bird that was hanging down from a second floating platform that would follow the first. This bird would flap twice as fast but never catch up. To me, art is about two things, the expression of thought and emotion, and the exploration of a craft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
