While working on inkscape, I decided to change up my original idea in order to add more details and layers. I decided to incorporate an astronaut because it brought out the stars really nicely. I kept the constellations as a layer because that was my original intention.
Powers Used:
** I used 1/4 inch acrylic for the test cuts but I am considering going down to 1/8 inch. The powers used worked on the 1/4.
- Vector Cut Option 1: Power 25, Passes 10
- Vector Cut Option 2: Power 45, Passes 7
- Vector Engrave (longer lines): Power 20, Passes 2
- Vector Engrave(smaller shapes (I used for the stars)): Power 25, Passes 1
Some possible Ideas for the final:
- Paint Layer 2 only to cover the helmet so that the planets are colored in.
- Add LEDs to the stand so that it can change colors
Do you think any of these would be good ideas for the final?
Hi Vanshika! I really appreciate the addition of the astronaut. I think that the idea you had in class of painting in just the helmet area would be really cool!
Hi Vanshika! I noticed the dimensionality created by the inner reflections of acrylic! I remember in class you were talking about updating the base. How is that going? In my opinion I would use a caliper to get the actual size and laser cut a bit smaller allowing you to sand the pieces just enough to fit in. It looks out of this world!
Hi! I should say I can only see the words “Image preview” where you added your progress pictures so all I have to go off in the featured picture and the version you showed in class. I was stuck by the amount of detail you got into this little layer stack. And I appreciate the clean lines of the astronaut layer so much. Personally, I love both your ideas for finishing the project, I think I would want to see the LED lights added if you only did one, but that’s because I don’t have an idea yet of how the painted planets will look, and I can imagine them looking sick!
