Lantern Design – Vanshika

I had a new idea because I really wanted to experiment with the shadow box. Since I used acrylic for the last project, I want to try using cardstock.

I will be making a shadow box for Dr. Strange

Once I do test cuts, I will experiment with vector engraves on the cardstock because I am not sure if the laser will cut all the way through the paper.

—— OLD DESIGN ——-

For the lantern project I wanted to make a lamp in which every side represents one of the 6 infinity stones. I decided to leave the top one to be blank and then have the bottom be the base of the lamp. I have yet to design the sides on inkscape but I think I would like to add some more background story to each infinity stone, perhaps the character that they are associated with.

For the test cuts, I would like to do them on cardstock, but I am not sure if I should use the black acrylic or wood for the final piece. Do you think I should use different colors of light to illuminate each stone, or find a way to incorporate color onto the piece itself (paint wood?).

Hi! I think it would be cool to incorporate the color that each stone is into the piece either with light or painting the wood depending on what material you use.

Hi Emily, thank you for the suggestion!

Cool idea! I wonder whether you plan to raster or vector cut each side? To answer your question, I think it would look the coolest if you were able to isolate and make each side the appropriate color with the lights, but it may be difficult.

Hi Sydney! When I was going to use that as the project, I was imagining vector cutting the shapes or designs.

Hi Vashika! This piece utilizes a lot of color elements, so I would definetely consider using colored acrylic pieces for your lantern.

Hi Michelle! Thank you for the suggestion!

Hi! Another options to add some color (especially if you use black acrylic or wood) would be to use some thin colored paper like material on the inside of each panel. I think it could look really cool to see each design glow their different colors, especially because if you paint the sides it might be hard/ impossible to see them when the room is dark.

Hi Iris! This is a really cool idea, although I did not end up using this design for the project, I might try to use black acrylic and colored cardstock in the future!

Hi Vanshika! I think creating different colors for the cut outs would be interesting. You could use either colored cardstock or painted acrylic to get similar looks.

Hi Kat! Thank you for the suggestion. I think painted acrylic would be really cool too!
