Lantern Project: Tia Mehta

on

For my lantern design, I’m taking inspiration from the tesseract from the Marvel movies. The lantern will be a cube, with a tinier cube inside that has a blue light. I’m not sure how this will work yet, but hopefully I’ll figure it out. I want to make it the size of the tesseract from the movie, so I’m going to follow the dimensions of that tesseract. I’m planning on using frosted acrylic for the sides to make it look similar to the tesseract. For the lantern effect, I want to engrave different symbols from the Marvel universe on the sides.

Hi Tia. I love this idea. How do you plan to display this piece? will one or two sides be missing because they will be the bottom and back or is it supposed to be a more dynamic piece?

What kind of light do you plan on using? Will the cube be completely sealed or have a cord coming out of it? Just an idea, but you could use one of those solar powered lights that only turns on at night.

This project is so cute and if it works successfully I will definitely be commissioning you to create one for me as well. I think using acrylic is definitely the right choice here. But with each face having a design, I’m curious what your plans are for the light source/lightbulb?

Hi! I’m wondering how you are planning to support the inner cube since the way I visualize it based on your description is that the smaller cube is almost suspended within the bigger cube.

Hi! I appreciate that you are adding the marvel symbols to the tesseract, I can’t wait to see how it comes out. I think using frosted acrylic is a great idea and I am interested to see how the light will come through the engraved designs.

Hi Tia! I appreciate your choice to go with the Tesseract! How do you plan to incorporate color into the piece?
