Introduction-Sydney Smith

HI, my name is Sydney Smith, and I am from a small town in Central New York called Moravia. While at home I love camping, swimming, boating, gardening, and hanging out with friends and family. I really enjoy crafting to relax in my everyday life. I haven’t done much drawing or painting except for in an art class last year. I really enjoy looking at art and I appreciate it whenever I see it. I have no experience with digital art, but am ready to learn! I never did much traditional art in highschool, but I loved singing, playing the clarinet and participating in my school’s musical every year. My grandma taught me how to sew, knit, crochet, embrioder, cross-stitch, and and do pretty much everything crafty. Over the course of my life I have knit dish clothes, socks, a hat, a tank top, blankets, little bumblebees, a sock monkey, and festive hand towels! I have also done a Bob Ross painting as you can see in my portfolio. I am so excited for this hands-on art class after a few art history classes here at WPI!

These are very familiar to me. The still lifes of everyday objects like the apples and rubix cube ground it very much in reality. The mountain landscape makes me nostalgic for the mountains back in Oregon.

Hi Sydney, I will give you the cute badge and striking badge. The bee is super cute and I love how minimalist and clean the rubix cube is.

Cute: I love the bee and tea cloths that you made, they’re really cute!

Detailed: Your work with the still-life drawings are extremely well done, especially the ones done with colour. Colour is really hard to get right with realism drawings and you did an amazing job!
