Shane: Layers Design

My initial plan was to make the letter S with colorful layers and designs similar to artwork by Jen Stark. I am abandoning this idea and instead going to make a landscape of a mountain. A few people have already commented on this idea, so I am keeping my original post here.

This is the image that I will be recreating in layers. It will be split up into four sections: The sky, the clouds, the mountain, and the trees.

    Hi Shane,
What material do you plan to use for the colors?

    1. Shane says:

For the S, I was planning on having a white border with inside layers being orange, blue, pink, and red.
For the mountain, I will paint my layers with white, blue, red, and green.

  2. Emily says:

What is your plan for how many layers will be used?

    1. Shane says:

For the S, I was planning to do about 5 layers.
For the mountain, I will have 4 layers, maybe less depending on how it turns out.

  3. Lauren says:

Hi Shane! Will the S be a standalone piece or embedded into something?

    1. Shane says:

The S was going to be a standalone thing I would put on my door. The mountain will be also its own piece that will have a frame so I can put it on my wall.

Hi Shane, do you know what material you plan on using for this design?

    1. Shane says:

I was going to use paper for the S. The mountain is going to be made out of plywood.

Hi Shane! How do you plan to recreate the details on the base and peak of the mountain?

    1. Shane says:

Those details will be done using raster engraves.

Hi Shane! Does this design symbolize anything?

    1. Shane says:

This design is a famous painting from Japan and I thought it looked simple enough to recreate. To me, this symbolizes using modern technology while incorporating traditional techniques.

  7. Sydney says:

Do you have any ideas on how you will color this piece?

    1. Shane says:

I will be using some acrylic paint that I have; although, I have not thought about what colors I want to use. The original artist created multiple versions of this painting with all slightly different tints. My current thought is to either replicate the original as closely as I can or add my own unique hues.
