I finally have updates for my lantern project! It was a long wait to get back into the laser cutter but I was able to get all of my pieces and some extras cut. It is still a work in progress as there is a lot of gluing, sanding, assembly, lighting and painting left to do.
For the see through portion of the tiles, I decided to use clear acrylic as I couldn’t find a see through black acrylic that I liked. This actually has been working out better than I thought because I can sort of use the brush stroke to mimic a grain of wood. Also, I have only been painting one side of the acrylic so that more light will shine through the pieces.
