Introduction: Lauren Herchenroder

About Me

Hello!

I’m Lauren, I use She/Her/Hers pronouns, and I am a senior Biochemistry major ready to graduate this May! I grew up about an hour from Worcester on the border of MA and NH. I have an older sister (who happened to also go to WPI) and a younger brother (still in high school). My mom and dad both have multiple siblings, so growing up I spent a lot of time hanging out with my cousins and family. I’d say that everyone in my immediate family is connected through music, but we’re also all pretty crafty people and have made art in our own ways over the years.

I’ve been involved in sports most of my life, and was on the Track & Field team here at WPI for two years. I played violin for roughly 8 years but haven’t played any instruments consistently since high school. I absolutely love music and would say it’s my most consistent connection to art besides cooking/baking. I especially like to make playlists based on general vibes that I get from music, and I imbedded a few playlists below in case anyone is interested. Throughout quarantine, I’ve picked up a steady habit of painting to fill my spare time. I always use a reference for my art, but it’s a pretty split average between pictures my friends or I have taken and something I found online. Some of the art mediums that I’ve dabbled in include;

  • origami
  • bracelet making
  • digital art/design
  • acrylic paints
  • watercolor paints
  • wood working
  • clay sculptures
  • knitting
  • drawing
  • sewing
  • cooking/baking
  • makeup
  • embroidery
  • calligraphy

I’m looking forward to this class and seeing everyone’s artwork!

Artwork examples

A watercolor painting of cardinals on watercolor paper.
This was a digital painting done using free online software called Kleki. It was based off a Bob Ross tutorial.
This is a wooden sign that I shaped, sanded, and painted. Inspiration was taken from a TV show bar sign.
This is another watercolor painting I did of a picture that my boyfriend took of his moms plant.
This was a series of 3″ by 3″ canvases using acrylic paint of the houses in Spongebob.
Another watercolor on canvas I made for my boyfriend of his Tesla.

Attached below are examples of flyers that I have made using an online program called Canva.
