Altered Toys Design

For my design, I thought of the most basic toy I could think of : a ball. I thought a lot about the ball and how they are usually bouncy and round and how you can bounce them off surfaces. For my alteration, I decided to add a bunch of spikes to the ball, essentially rendering it useless as a “bouncy ball”, which in my opinion, is an adequate alteration.

I was a bit challenged by getting the spikes to face the direction i wanted, but i kept on trying to make outward spikes on the surface of the ball.

artist question: do you think the ball is more striking as half spiked or fully spiked?

Hi! To answer your question I feel like the ball is more striking with half the ball covered in spikes. And my suggestion is that I think it might look more altered/weird if you make the spikes different heights and directions on purpose.

    Hi Helena,
I like the ball half spiked better. I would make sure to check your model for self intersections in MeshMixer with the Inspector before printing.

Hi! I definitely think that the half spiked ball is more striking. I think that you could add a handle to the smooth side of the ball if you’re looking for something to break up the smoothness.
