Introduction: Grace Jolin

Hello! My name is Grace and I am a sophomore BME ME double major. I am from Goffstown NH and I live on campus.

Going back to when I was about 3 years old I starting dancing (ballet, tap, hip hop, everything) and that became my major creative outlet all the way to today where before covid I would do Zumba on campus and try to take class at home over breaks.

More traditional art making has been in my life for a similarly long time. I’ve been painting, drawing, and trying various forms of sculpting/modeling since I could hold pencils and brushes. Most recently I took a figure drawing course and found it really challenging and then rewarding in the end.

Throughout my life I have tried dozens of different crafts and art forms and whenever I find a new one I love working my way from knowing nothing to being able to make something I am proud of. Knitting, collaging, clay modeling, paper-mache, sculptures out of duct-tape, acrylic landscapes, abstract watercolors, drawing from life and pictures, digital painting/drawing.

In my current life art had taken a backseat for a while with the stresses of college life but as I have taken more art classes here I have learned that art is a way for me to get away from the strict ‘correct’ answers that are everywhere in engineering and use a different part of my brain that makes things more fun. Art in all of it’s many forms has always and I hope will continue to be a part of my life as a way to express and enjoy myself. I see my future combining a lot of skills I have learned from art with whatever job I end up with, be it in a direct way like biomechanical designing, or in a less direct way like thinking more creatively.

Hi! You have a great eye for realism and motion! Your ability to capture a figure in motion is very impressive! I am going to give you the familiar badge because we have both taken the intro to art and figure drawing classes here and I love seeing how you were able to depict the same things I was looking at in such a beautiful and real way.
