Layers Project: This project was inspired by artists we looked at in class that had the final design only appear when all the layers were alligned ‘just right’. I took a photo of myself in a dance pose, then drew all the flower layers and cut out the silhouette of myself. The end result was all the flowers building upon and around eachother to reveal the entire silhouette. I am very pleased with how this came out.
Lantern Project: For this project I started with the box maker website and determined I really liked the look of the pentagon shape for a lantern. Then I began thinking about the design and knew I wanted something that would wrap entirely around the lantern, this led to me wanting to do a horizon line of mountains. The mountains went through various redesigns until I got to the dual horizon line I used in the final design. I also added many stars to be the main point of where light is being used in the design. The light is on the interior, mounted to the top of the box.
Altered Toys Project: This project was inspired by the countless hours and hundreds of books I read when I was a child in contrast to how much time I now spend behind the screen of my laptop. I used tinkercad for the design: I took and modified a premade open book and then made the laptop from scratch. It came out even cuter than I anticipated and an unexpected function of this is that it is a perfect phone stand (ik a bit ironic that it holds another screen I spend my life on).

Hi Grace,
I love the picture of your layers project with the sky as a background, it gives a really happy vibe to it. I also appreciate that it is an original photo of yourself which gives more meaning to the piece. I like how the light is able to spill out from the bottom of your lantern piece, it adds some really nice ambient lighting. I think your 3D print for the altered toy project looks super clean and neat, the detail is all there.
Hi grace,
I love the work you have done in this class. I think your layers project is really interesting in the way that it used the background as a part of the work. I also love how each flower has a color scheme that fits within the color scheme of the whole.
Hi! I really liked the color scheme you used for your layers project and that the pink base piece stood out against the flowers. I also think the keyboard for the laptop you made from scratch for the altered toy design came out really well.
Hi Grace! I love how you incorporated the background to your layers project! It came out very beautifully and I love the colors!
Hi Grace! I love your art! I think everything came out so awesome, especially your layers project. It is so cool that you incorporated yourself into the piece, it gives it a lot more meaning and brings out the energy of the pose. I also think your 3D print is super interesting and think that its almost fitting as a phone stand in a funny way. Like a subtle reminder to the past while being functional in the present.
I appreciate how the flowers on your layers project are dimensional. I did not initially see that and I like it even more than I did before!
The way that the light shines through your lantern when its dark gives it the effect of a starry night sky, which is super cool. The use of negative space in your layers project makes it frame the background in a really interesting way, changing the piece as it changes location. I also like that your toys project has an unintended utility as a phone holder.
Hi Grace! I love all your pieces, especially your lantern project – I appreciate how well the designs on each side are balanced, with different sized mountains and stars; it doesn’t look crowded but instead are all placed perfectly. All your final versions turned out amazing!
Hi Grace! I love how you adjusted your final layer’s project and how it incorporated the environment around it! It makes the piece feel more integrated and gives off a fun positive feeling.
I love the rustic feeling to your lantern, the design came out really clean and I like the light coming out from underneath, it almost looks like it’s floating.
Incredible job on these pieces! My favorite of the three would have to be the layers project. I am so glad you decided to go with the negative space where the dancer is. I think it gives you great opportunity to play with the background and evoke different feelings with each background choice. You could even take it on travels with you and photograph all the cool places you go!
