An Introduction of Erica Bonelli

Hi, I’m Erica!

I’m a Sophomore studying Mechanical Design Engineering and trying to pursue a Fine Arts minor at WPI. I grew up in Chandler, Arizona and DO NOT like the cold (poor school choice, I know). My parents would probably tell you I’ve been creating art since I left the womb, and I can’t say they’re wrong. In elementary school my sister and I always had a fully stocked art supply cabinet and I took full advantage of it. For several years throughout middle school and early high school my primary medium was sketches in old notebooks. In the later half of high school I turned more to cosplaying and theater with my friends as I worked as the TA for my high school art teachers. Since starting college I’ve turned to acrylic painting in my free time with many paintings now adorning my walls. I’ve taken classes in pastels, oils, and charcoals mostly focused on techniques for working with shadow, color, and most recently the human figure. I’ve also taken courses in Photoshop and Maya, but I tend to prefer traditional art mediums during my personal time (though I have dabbled with Krita a few times). I’ve recently fallen in love with Ballroom dancing and attended a few competitions before the pandemic. I like taking pictures of my surroundings, and of course what engineer would be complete without an unhealthy obsession with LEGOs?

Colorful: I love how you use light and color in your paintings

I’m giving you the dark badge, particularly for the cat, the skull and the eye. A lot of these use darker colors and portray somewhat surreal imagery. This is contrasted by the autumnal landscape and the very bright Joe’s O’s painting.

Colourful/Dark: I love the contrasts between each piece as they jump from colourful sunsets to long-legged cat creatures and eyes. Colour is very important to me for art pieces, and your choice of colour (or lack thereof) of each piece makes them very gorgeous!
