Here are my final projects. For the layers project I created a piece depicting two penguins in an icy landscape. Made with layers of painted wood and clear blue acrylic it consists of 4 different depths and a variety of pieces. For the Lantern project I made a Japanese inspired house shaped lamp using designs from the videogame series Yakuza to adorn the sides in engraved cardstock. For the altered toys design I modeled and printed a dragon figurine for use in tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
Hi Alex,
I appreciated that you were able to make your layers project stand up on its own. I really like the patterned roof of the house for your lantern project, it looks super cool with the light on in the dark. I think your dragon turned out really well! Personally I can totally see it as a Pokemon or something.
Hi!
I really like the way your layers project came out with the combination of painting the penguins contrasts with the acrylic background.
Your 3D printed dragon looks so perfect a-top your lantern it’s almost as if that was your idea all along. The dragon came out very well and even the color works.
I love the roof of your lantern because it is so different than anything else I saw or thought of
Hi! I liked the combination of materials used for your layers piece because it added the background for the penguins but didn’t distract from them. I also think the pattern on the top of the lantern was interesting as well as it’s ability to be a resting point for the dragon.
Hi Alex,
I notice how you incorporated aspects of your life that you care about and are interested in your work. You did a great job capturing emotion in the penguins and have some incredible detail in your engravings. I am very impressed.
Hi Alex! I appreciated the different materials you used in the layers project. I think it adds a nice contrast and draws attention to the penguins!
Hi Alex! Your pieces came out awesome! I love your lantern piece especially, I think the open roof design and all of the side designs came out so great. The wood you used, or maybe its a stain is also really beautiful. Great job!!
The light you chose for the lantern project really gives it a warm, fiery feel. The finish on the wood is also very well done.
Hi Alex! I love your lantern design, especially how the engraved images turned out on the cardstock (that must’ve been really difficult to get the correct settings). I also think that your altered toy sits very well on top of the lantern. With all the spikes and angles, it fits with the pattern on the roof of the lantern. I also appreciate the combination of wood and acrylic that you incorporated for your layers piece; the penguins are so cute!
Hi Alex! The penguins layers project stands out to me for it’s use of contrast, both material and subject wise. I like the use of the clear acrylic for the ice that’s pointy compared to the more rounded figures of the penguins which also use a warmer color. It creates a warm feeling that reminds me of cozying up to a fire place during a cold winter’s night.
The detail that you were able to get with engraving on paper is amazing, and I am so glad I got to see it up close in person.
Awesome job! My favorite of your pieces would have to be the lantern project. I just love how detailed you got the design and the fact that it was rastered is even more impressive! I also really appreciate the art style you used!
