Update: I have finished all of my cuts but the paint is taking a bit longer than expected to arrive so I have yet to paint and assemble the whole piece. I should have the whole project finished by tomorrow afternoon. For now, here is what I have, with the pieces placed in approximately the positions that they will be put together.

Here are my updated svgs.

After cutting out the first draft in plywood I’ve decided upon a couple changes that I want to make. The most major one is that I want to fill some of the negative space on the baby penguin, by adding another piece between the stomach of the baby penguin and the adult penguin. I also am planning on adding supports to the back of the piece so it can stand on its own. One thing I noticed while I was cutting it is that the larger pieces took more passes than the smaller ones, so while I was cutting it the smaller pieces would fall in and then the successive passes would cut less precisely, so in order to fix that I’ll have to recolor the smaller pieces in the svg file so I can independently decide the number of passes and laser power for the big and small pieces. Since I decided that I wanted to have the piece be freestanding and the backdrop will be semi-transparent I’ll probably place the supports so that they are hidden by the penguins in the foreground. What do you think of the placement of the penguins relative to the rest of the piece? Should I adjust their positions or do you think they are good as is?
For anyone who’s interested, the svgs for the project are below.
Hi Alex,
In response to your question on the positioning, maybe you could try positioning the penguins more in the center of the piece so that there is equal amounts of mountain on each side.
Hi, I like the penguins being not in the center but I do think rearranging slightly to have more of the background negative space on the far right side would make the overall composition better
Alex, I think the penguin placement is really good, It feels natural and like there is a real dynamic between the penguins. I do think that some sort of subtle separation between the two connected penguins might make it a little clearer, unless you are trying to convey a strong connection between a child and parent.
Hi Alexander! In response to your question, I think the position of the Penguins looks good. I really like how they are sort of off centered. The asymmetry creates a realistic image.
I like the placement of the penguins, if you would like to create more negative space around the penguins, I would move the left penguin a little more to the right. It will create a nice asymmetry that the mountains on the left should balance out.
Hi Alexander! I think the penguins are in a good position, the only thing I would think about was a final layer behind the mountains for the pieces to sit on. A general shape like a triangle or circle could bring the whole scene together really well!
Hi Alex! I think centering the penguins might help achieve a better balance in the piece.
I think moving the penguins more to the center would be a good alteration. However, if you do so, maybe find other elements to add in the negative space next to them, a layered snowflake came to mind!
Hi Alexander! I like the placements of the penguins, but I do think that it would be a bit clearer if you were able to separate the 2 penguins that are cut out together.
