When I went to cut my initial design it did not assemble correctly and over all didn’t really work. I decided that I would try and stick with the same idea but design the structure in a different way so that it would actually come together this time. Here’s a screenshot of my updated design.

I also figured that since I plan for the paper pieces to fit in and be interchangeable, I thought it would be fun to test out some cool designs from a video game series called Yakuza in place of the trees. I will likely do both. Another thing I decided to change is to switch from cutting the paper to engraving it, that way you would be able to see the candle inside the box through the paper.

Hi Alexander! I appreciate the use of repeating patterns throughout the lantern! How do you plan to place your light inside?
Hi Alex, I am struck by the detail and intricacies in some of the characters. How do you expect the light to travel through the engraved paper in contrast to the normal paper?
Hi! I appreciate the contrast of the geometric patterns vs the trees and creatures/ animals. What are your plans for color of paper and finishing the piece?
Hi Alexander! I appreciate that the side panels of your piece sort of resemble windows. How will you make the design part interchangeable? Is the top part (the roof) going to be removable?
Hi Alexander! Im struck by the intricacy of your creature designs! Are you using colored paper or plain white? I believe colored paper may add to the existing life of the piece.
I had no idea you could engrave the paper without cutting it. What settings do you use on the lasercutter for that? And what type of paper are you using for this?
