The artists that inspired this design was Jen Stark for the concept of layering different colors and shapes that come together when viewed from different angles. In my piece I am planning to have the different colored flowers above the previous color so the image of my silhouette only comes out when viewing the piece so all the layers line up. Additionally I really liked the floral and cutout designs of Ibbini so in drawing my cut outs vs engraves I want to take inspiration from their designs.
Hi Grace,
How many layers do you plan on having?
Hi, In my current design I have about 6 layers for different flowers and petals
What is your plan for the material of the piece?
My plan is to have the silhouette in wood as the base layer then the flowers in colored cardstock
Are you planning on cutting out the detailing on the flowers and having the uncolored parts be negative space or rastering the flowers for the detail? Or something else entirely?
Hi, I tried doing details cut out but after working in inkscape my plan now is to layer each size petal on top of the previous so they stack to make the whole flower once assembled
hi grace, long time no see. I like the idea of using prospective as an aspect of this peace, how thick do you plan on making this? also what materials do you think you will use?
I plan to have the silhouete as the bottom layer in wood then the flower layers in colored cardstock. I think it will be between 1-2 inches thick once I determine how I am assembling it.
Hi, I really like how your piece uses the flowers to shape the outline! I was wondering what size you are planning on making this piece?
I plan on the piece being about 12×12 and then 1-2 inches thick
Hi Grace! This is a very nice sketch. I was wondering what your plan is fr incorporating the different colors?
The design has changed quite a bit as I worked on it in ink scape so I am now incorporating color by having the largest petals of one flower in one color then the next layer in that flower is a different color.
Hi Grace! I love the thought that you put behind your design! How do you plan to present the piece?
I plan to present the piece as the cardstock layered on top of wood and assembled using spacers between the layers to add depth and then it will be best viewed when it is mounted upright or viewed from the top down.
Hi Grace! What do you hope viewers get/feel after seeing your piece?
I hope viewers find the piece interesting and clever because I want it to not be clear what it is unless it is viewed straight on, from any other angles it will be more chaotic and confusing.
