First Cuts – Amanda Smith

on

My little mushroom came out well, I’m just proud I used the laser cutter on my own. I photographed it sitting on my computer screen so I could choose a cute background for it and put it in its habitat with some friends.

I apricate the way you photographed your mushroom against a background that it fits into.

I’m struck by the way that the cuts under the mushroom top create an illusion of depth.

    Hi Amanda,
I noticed you cut out the bottom portion of the mushroom head. I really like the curve you used to create the mushroom stem. Instead of being straight, the curve adds some nice movement and character to the piece.

I am pleased by how the burned edges of the cut color the wood. Creates a neat effect that is very mushroomy.

Hi Amanda! I really like your use of cutting out the underside of the cap! I like how it adds more dimensionality to the piece and plays to incorporate the world around it.

I remember you sharing this design during class and I am pleased with how it came out! The background adds a great effect to your final photo.

I appreciate the way you used a background image for the featured image and that because of the holes in the piece you can see part of the background through it.

Hi Amanda!! your tiny mushroom gives me such cottagecore vibes! I really like that you took full advantage of the negative space you incorporated into your mushroom and put it in a matching background. Beautiful combination of art inserted into real life

Hey Amanda! I was struck by how you positioned your mushroom cut in front of a background of real mushrooms. I found that really cool because it reminds me of movies where animated objects/characters are placed in the “real world” and they don’t exactly blend in.

Hi Amanda! I noticed you chose to cut out the underside of the mushroom vs. other details (the spots) and I think it made it a really interesting piece! The computer background was also a good touch.

Hi! I am struck by the realistic depth the cut out underside makes your mushroom appear. I a pleased how you let the vector engraved dots run right off the top edge of the little guy. I is very cute!
