Introduction: Vanshika Rohera

Hello! My name is Vanshika Rohera (she/her/hers). I am a sophomore studying Electrical and Computer Engineering, and I am really looking forward to this course and the rest of the term! I was born in Mumbai but my family moved to the Caribbean when I was two, so Curaçao is my home. It is a very small island off the coast of Venezuela. It is a place where I was immersed into a lot of very different cultures and artistic outlets.

Art has played a very special role in my life because I have been surrounded by it in many different ways. At certain times I was unable to recognize that it was even there. I have danced since I can remember. I started off with ballet and classical but later transitioned to modern. Alongside my journey with dance I always had an appreciation for music and instruments, I played the flute for 6 years in middle and part of high school. Besides dance and music, I always had an interest in drawing. I have a very short attention span and doodling was a typical activity for my class periods. I enjoy drawing detail-oriented yet simplistic patterns, such as mandalas. I also enjoy painting, I tend to paint what I see, or want to see, so different landscapes or places I want to visit. When I started painting (acrylic) I had the inclination to explore photography and take pictures of my surroundings.

Some pictures of my drawings/paintings:

These are some doodles from class notebooks or sticky notes 🙂

My old dance pictures are too embarrassing to post so here are some photographs I have taken of my favorite places. My favorite place is the beach and I grew up on an island hence the many ocean pictures :
