Evil LEGOs

For this project I decided to take the annoying tendency LEGOs have of stabbing unsuspecting feet and make it worse. I’m modifying the top nubs on some standard LEGO bricks to have spikes so they look as awful to step on as they feel. To turn it into more of a cohesive art piece (and prevent the possibility of ACTUALLY stepping on one of these), I’m going to print them as part of a platform that will also host a bare foot that seems to have just stepped on some of them.

Concept Drawing

I created the platform and LEGOs in Tinkercad, and the foot in ZBrush, and then exported to foot as an OBJ file to bring over to tinkercad and finalize with the rest of it. The platform/LEGOs will be printed as one piece and the foot will be printed as a separate piece that fits in an indent in the platform. I’m planning to paint the LEGOs and the foot, adding some details like blood on the foot and some spikes. Because I used an accurate LEGO model* and kept half of the cylindrical nub, I’m hoping I’ll potentially be able to connect real LEGOs to the evil LEGOs.

*Sources note: I used the LEGO top to top connector from https://www.tinkercad.com/users/eTeI84tlPAx-jordan-grabanski-220 to base my evil LEGOs off of, specifically the block and nub size as well as nub placement.

This concept actually made me laugh a little. Very nice. My suggestion for you would be to maybe have some small built evil lego structures- I think this could allow for more emphasis on their ‘stabbyness’.

    Hi Erica,
I suggest using the overhang tree supports in MeshMixer Professor showed us to support the foot. Maybe it would be cool to have a small plaque with a title for this piece?

Hi! I think some of the Lego pieces could have more dramatic spikes, like maybe the ones you plan to have the blood on. I think doing that could add more to the danger/evil of the Legos.

Hi! Will the pieces be all the same color or will you color them with paint? Also I think that adding texture to the floor or using wood could help bring the scene to life.

I like that idea of the wood, I hadn’t really thought about what to do for the base itself! Maybe I can get like some wood veneer to laser cut so it doesn’t come too high up the sides of the legos

Hola Erica, your idea is very refreshing to me (I love it), and for suggestions, I think it would express the atmosphere of the piece more if you can put some “warning” tape or roadsign there, it would be terrific.

Awesome! I think it might be worth it once you have the first print done to possibly make the spike part more exaggerated so it is more obvious what the intention is.

Hi Erica! This is a very funny idea. I was wondering if you would be painting the foot and legos to add color?
