Texturing – Kyria Nelson

No matter what I did, the blood wouldn’t become reflective. Other things were reflective but the blood simply refused!

If you know some way to fix this, let me know!

Character Part 2 – Kyria Nelson

This is Jingles the cat.

He is incredibly late due to several files being corrupted and lost by Maya, coupled with my incredible lack of skill and inability to reliably move models between Maya and ZBrush, meaning the colors on him now are individually selected faces with different materials, done entirely in Maya.

Despite sinking probably 9 or so hours into this project, he is merely Blinn material. I also can’t render him well, as it seems every time I try to introduce light into the scene, something gets corrupted. Thankfully, I learned that Maya can be told to incrementally save projects, so whenever this happened I had a backup to work off of.

If anyone can remedy the lighting problem/teach me how to add a more fur-like texture (without losing the coloring I’ve already done) please, please let me know.

On the other hand, I am very pleased with how his mouth and ear detail came out.

Mystery Textures

So here’s my entire scene rendered. The goal of the lighting and texturing was to be a very gloomy and haunted basement vibe. The toughest part was finding the right light reflection parameters for most of the objects. The walls, floor, and table were all textured based on images while most of the metal (boots, pauldron on shoulder, and belt) had Phong shader usage in order to maximize reflectivity. I’m really happy with how the handle of the sickle turned out as I was aiming for a bumpy leather handle. I know the render is a bit dark but the cover of the book is supposed to be visibly green snakeskin, as if the book were made of it.

Textures

I had a bit of problem getting a leather texture on the sofa but finally got it to something i could live with.

Scene With Texture

Here is my scene with all the realistic texture and coloring. I managed to use one of my patterns that I created as the rug and I think it turned out realistic.

I thought I would upload a couple more photos with the color from a screen shot instead of the render. I also added a glass barrier around the shower.

Texturing

These are the texturing for my objects and the background of my scene. I chose to render the objects within the scene to give a couple different general camera angles. I’ve been having a little trouble with UV mapping of my character so I have not completed his texturing yet.

This is the texturing that I did to my character! I tried to make the coat look alive with some depth and add texture into the hair. I also added some detailing on the shoes and controller.

Here are all of the UV’s that took a terribly long time to locate, match up, and draw in. However, I am happy with how the figure looks finish!
