Who done it?

12/29/18

Detective Morse ducked under the tape and into the crime scene. His hairs were standing on edge. The scene was electrifying: he hadn’t seen anything this abnormal in his 23 years as a detective. The room was perfectly normal with the train still going around the Christmas tree and the goldfish swimming freely in its bowl. Santa’s cookies were half eaten and the tv was showing the morning news. But that was the issue: things weren’t supposed to be this perfect. They were lifeless on the ground, gathered around the Christmas tree, gifts and wrapping paper tangled amongst their bodies. Their pulses were non-existent: they were unquestionably dead. There were only blunt trauma wounds, no blood, yet they all appeared to have died peacefully.

“Morse, you got any ideas as to what happened here?” inquired his assistant Alfred.

He didn’t respond. He had no idea what happened. 1 adult, 3 children, and a dog. All deceased. The only person who survived was Mrs. Chase a pharmacist who was at a medical expo to give feedback on newly released drugs. She was supposed to arrive by Christmas but the snowstorm delayed her until the 27th.

“Albert, can we get anything to cover that window?” Morse requested. The glass of the window was on the floor, shattered into a million pieces. The number 7 marker labeled the bullet used to shoot out the window, a 9mm bullet.

However, things were not adding up. Who would kill 3 children, a dog, and a man? Why was the window shot out? How did no one in the family react to the window being shot open? How were they killed by blunt trauma? Why did the killer not steal anything?

Objects:  goldfish, gifts, glass, bullet, cookies, tree

The answer to this is that the mom did it. I wasn’t sure how to add a motive into the little skit without making it too obvious. The main points are that the goldfish survived 4 days without being fed, the people died peacefully, yet it was made to look like blunt trauma, and how the mom is a pharmacist so she would have access to drugs (yea she drugged her family with the cookies).

Robot

I honestly have no idea what I made, but now that I look back at it, it looks like the robot from the Incredibles but with only 4 legs and claws.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Self Portrait

I chose to make a portrait that really focused on one aspect of my life. When I came to WPI, I was introduced to the game squash. I got all my friends into the game and enjoy it a lot. We play almost every day and whenever the clock strikes 9, I walk around the floor and yell very obnoxiously “Trynna squash?!” This gets all the boys out of their rooms and we then go down to the courts and enjoy the game.

I had a few challenged with this creating this. Firstly, the picture of me was extremely pixilated and the background color blended in well with my skin and shirt making it very difficult to crop out. Then the image I have in the background of the squash player going to hit the ball was originally going to replace my shirt, but it looked really weird after I had finished it so I got rid of it and made it the background instead. I also filled in the background with the red lines of a squash court. It made for a very interesting pattern which I liked. Then I added a squash racquet which I took the strings out of because they were very pixelated. Also, there is a squash ball inside the racquet. Finally, I added the words, “trynna squash?” because it’s what we always say when we’re getting ready to go play.

Expressive Typography

My first typography was inflation. I thought most people would think of a balloon being inflated so I took the other definition and made a sort of stock/price increase scene.

For my entropy typography, I had a pretty clean brick layout with the word entropy on them. The bricks should show order, but I thought it would be more interesting if I made them say entropy to contradict what it actually showed. Then I made a hole in the brick wall to show the actual disorder of this brick wall.

For buoyancy, I did a gradient background of dark water. Then I made bubble letters using the blending options on the words to make to appear to be more bubble and floating. Finally, I inserted a pattern of random circles to show bubbles floating up with I think made a pretty good affect.

Vector Tracing

This is Kylo Ren or better known as Ben Swolo. This is important to me because I grew up on Star Wars. The famous shirtless scene of Kylo Ren was one of the peak moments in Star Wars The Last Jedi.  I must admit I made mistake picking this picture as my vector tracing. The number of shadows and lighting angles proved to be very difficult to do vector tracing on. However, in the end, I’m pretty pleased with the results.
