Final Project

This is the story of detective Lawrence investigating the case of two missing children from a chemistry lab. The story has changed slightly from the initial version, but still is largely the same narrative.

Thank you to Nina Taurich for letting me use her chair asset!

Textures

Every texture from the set has either been improved upon by changing the material, keeping it the same to fit its position, or applying an entirely new texture. The beaker has been changed to be transparent and the liquid inside to be a solid polygon. The Macbook did not change much, but it has some shading on the corners now. The jacket of the detective was changed to a leather material, as were his pants. All of the shoes were given a better pattern to stop them from being so reflective. Photoshop was used to create the patterns applied to the walls and floors of this picture. The door’s wooden pattern was also created in Photoshop. The pencil was slightly changed on its main yellow texture to show wood better.

This last picture had some issues with lighting so it is hard to see, but it is supposed to show the transparency of the beaker and new material on the pencil.

Character Part 2: Modeling

Here is my character modeled in Maya. In the scene, he is starting to tap on the Macbook to try and turn it on. The hardest part of the character was modeling the fine details like the lightning tattoo and blood stain.

Character Part 1: Concept Art

Here is my concept art for the detective in my story. Both of these images are meant to show his arms extended for the part of the story when he’s reaching down to the table in the lab. He has a lightning tattoo on his right hand. He also has blood on his jacket because his friend got stabbed in this jacket. He does not wash it in remembrance of him. He also has some cuts along his face. I feel like I will definitely have fun modeling this in Maya.

Chemistry Lab Mystery

The mysterious disappearance of two seventh grade students, Clarence and Sarah, was quite peculiar to say the least. Every news outlet was trying to get firsthand comments from the school’s principal to ask what went on in the chemistry laboratory. Mr. Davis had been monitoring the students who were making up an experiment when he left for what couldn’t have been more than five minutes for a cigarette. When he returned to the room, the students had vanished, but strangely, their shoes were still at the table where they had previously been working. There were no cameras in the lab, but hall cameras showed no trace of the students leaving the room. The cameras surrounding the perimeter of the school captured no trace of them. Detective Lawrence entered the room to investigate the scene. A strip of yellow tape labeling the classroom as a crime scene spanned across the door. Lawrence stepped over it and peered into the beaker on the lone table in the room. It was mostly empty except for a miniscule amount of liquid. Lawrence stuck a syringe into it to take a sample. He then focused his attention on the four slip-on shoes directly under the table. They looked stretched as if someone was still standing there wearing them. The only remaining objects were a Macbook Air and a number two pencil. Strangely, the pencil was perfectly sharpened at the tip as if it was never used. Lawrence pressed the power button on the Macbook only to be greeted by a login screen. He collected the pencil and Macbook as evidence and left the room to return to the police station. Hopefully, this would be enough to discover what happened to the children.

Robot Primitives

I thought it would be cool to create AWESOMO from South Park, one of my favorite shows, in 3D. I used the helix tool to create the neck and leg connectors even though they cannot be seen very well. This was a very fun project to start out modeling in Maya.

Self Portrait Collage

For my collage, I wanted to keep elements of me in this picture which is why I kept my hair and neck visible. I tried to create a point of symmetry with my face. I replaced my face with TV static because, in the past, I watched a large amount of TV. My shirt masks some of the shows I used to watch all the time. My eyes are vector art on top of the static. My cat and dog are also balanced with one on each side of me. The background is meant to feel distant and disconnected from the rest of the image as it is a sunset of the beach I grew up on. It is the element of the picture that is unrelated to all of the others as I usually went there when I would leave all of the other elements at home.

Expressive Typography

Repetition: I wanted this first picture to be split. One side having repetition, but in different ways while the other side had the same repetition over and over.

Compression: I wanted the topic of this picture to be the word getting more and more compressed as the picture goes on.

Buoyancy: I wanted this to be various buoyant words in a beach-like setting.

Vector Tracing Portrait

I decided to do my vector tracing portrait on Hugh Neutron from the show The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. This show was one of the first I saw with 3D animation and I thought it would be fun to trace one of the funniest characters on it.
