Character Part 2: Modeling

I created the Rat Man in Z-Brush, which presented a new challenge for me. Similar to Maya….I struggled. A lot. However, I think I was able to replicate the character that I drew pretty well. I used a hair texture to try and emulate what a rat body would look like, along with adding weight to portray more a rat look. The color scheme I used helped to shape that.

Character Part 1: Concept Art

For my character I decided not to make the maintenance worker, but make the “Rat Man” itself. I think adding that element to the story of the Rat Man coming out of the tunnel could be entertaining. The Rat-Man would be part rat, part man, with the head and hair of a rat, but can walk and have hands/feet of a human.

Mysterious Objects Part 2: 3D Scene

I struggled a lot with handling the lighting of the scenes as I missed that class, however I was able to make light come out of the dropped flashlight to shine on the pool of blood.

Mysterious Objects part 1 Story&Sketch

Story:

Around 5:15 am the tired maintenance worker was called in for an early shift, to check the controls on the track. He had to arrive early before any trains were present. Only his 2nd week on the job, the other workers would tease him about the legend of “The Rat Man.” They said a part human-part rat lurked in the tunnels late at night. He assumed that this was all part of rookie hazing. The city had not put much money into the upkeep of the station, so there was not much light inside. The budget for the station was so low, that there was only one security camera and it was outside on the actual station. Just before he reached the control panel that stood immediately before the dark tunnel, he heard the squeal of rats. He had never heard so many rats together in one area. Out of pure curiosity, he shined his flashlight down to the tracks. The rats dispersed at the sight of the light; the worker immediately dropped to his knees at the sight of a pool of blood covering the tracks. There was no animal or body in sight. Just a pool of blood large enough to fill up a bathtub and foot prints heading into the dark tunnel. He immediately dropped his flashlight ran out of the tunnel to call the police.

Robot Primitives

For the robot, I pictured a spherical base that would allow him/her to move in all directions sort of like a segway.

Self Portrait Tattoo Collage

For my self portrait collage I decided to represent the elements that reflect my life, such as music, my favorite places, sayings, religion, and where I’m from, in tattoo form. I’ve always thought that tattoos are essentially a collage of your life experiences, so I thought that it would be an interesting way to represent them. I decided to keep all of the “tattoos” black and white to represent my engineering way of thinking, and because I think they visually look better. For my background I decided to make a gradient to represent the sun and the water, because the photo was taken at my favorite beach. My biggest challenge was making them look realistic. To do so, I used a lot of shadowing, as well as distortion of the shapes and letters to look more natural on the different parts of the body. I used several images from the internet as well as a few different fonts in the lettering.

Vector

I chose to use an image of my favorite basketball player, Michael Jordan, dunking a basketball at a park in Chicago. I thought that creating a vector image of this photograph would be interesting because a silhouette of him from this image eventually became the Jordan brand logo for his company.

Patterns

Animal

For my animal pattern I used a photograph of a giraffe and attempted to create a DNA looking pattern.  I created this pattern and used this color change to represent how all giraffes may look strikingly similar to the naked eye, yet each one possess an individual characteristics as all animals do.

Synthetic

For my synthetic pattern I used a combination of a filmstrip with a dvd. The image represents the change in the movie mediums over the years. Although in a pattern, each color reflection from the dvd creates an individual image within the different squares of the filmstrip, symbolizing how all movies are different.
