Patterns

Animal

For my animal pattern I used a photograph of a giraffe and attempted to create a DNA looking pattern.  I created this pattern and used this color change to represent how all giraffes may look strikingly similar to the naked eye, yet each one possess an individual characteristics as all animals do.

Synthetic

For my synthetic pattern I used a combination of a filmstrip with a dvd. The image represents the change in the movie mediums over the years. Although in a pattern, each color reflection from the dvd creates an individual image within the different squares of the filmstrip, symbolizing how all movies are different.

  1. I really enjoy the creativity of the first design, and that you are representing DNA with something that’s made out of DNA. The color change is refreshing too, the purple-ish hue looks good with the stark white background. I also like the fact that not all the legs match up completely – it gives some more interest to the center part of the design.

  2. I think the layered patterns of cd and movie film create an interesting pattern. Maybe offsetting the film pattern would create a slightly more visually interesting pattern but overall its still very good looking.

  3. The pattern of the CD and movie films generates a look that is similar to a binder that holds CD’s. I’m wondering if this was intentional or not. Other than that, the overall pattern is perfect in color and design. The staggering of the CD’s was a good choice.

  4. The DNA giraffes in your first picture is a really interesting way to create a pattern. Instead of simply tiling a picture of a giraffe, the giraffe was used to create another picture from the original picture. It’s interesting to think about what other patterns could be created using this same technique.

  5. The color scheme in pattern with the CDs and film strip works well. I like how the rainbow colors of the CD contrast with the black of the film strip and the white of the background.

  6. The second pattern has a very cool idea behind it. I would have liked to see some more movement perhaps with the film strips to make it a bit more interesting and add some flow to the image.

  7. The DVDs and film strips as a pattern are a great combination because of how they both represent movie distribution across eras. They also flow together in a nice combination of colors because of the film strips being black while the DVDs give off a silver main color, but rainbow reflection.
