Patterns – Animal and Vegetable

Animal Pattern:

The repeating images were taken from the wing design of a Chinese Moon Moth, an image of which happened to be in my inventory. By taking a part of the wing, blowing it up, and playing with the slanted designs of the pattern, I ended up making something headed for the “synthetic” range a bit.  I was sort of inspired by late-80’s early-90’s backsplash designs.

Vegetable Pattern:

Here, I went for a Mod approach. Inspired by the flow of the Japanese symbol for Advanced Drivers, I decided to go for a long-climbing “Seeds ‘n Vines” look for the pattern. I decided to put a lot of emphasis on the “vine” aspect in both the foreground (the seed/vine stack) and the background (the horizontal vines).

  1. The color contrast between the red, black, and green in the second pattern creates a nice visual effect that makes it a good pattern that is pleasing to the eye. It also has some vertical motion which makes it good to look at also.

  2. I adore your moth-wing pattern. I personally love moths and butterflies and the bit of the wing you chose to show in the pattern captures the magnificent natural pattern excellently. I also am a fan of the soft, pastel color scheme.

  3. The more natural and less vibrant color palette in the first pattern suites the subject matter very well. The four different colored wings complement each other and really stand out from the calm yellow background.
