I decided to make a self portrait more about what I am and what I do, rather than about me myself. I decided to mix a couple of metaphors here and there.
For example: here, I’m literally living out of a box of Pop-tarts, indicating both my love for the sugary snack and what choices I make in my spending on breakfast. The desk’s a mess, the area in the box is worse. Scattered about are what I’m currently putting a lot of focus onto – homework, planners, etc., but it’s just out of reach of the arm trying to claw itself out of the warmness of the box. Also in the picture are my favorite things, my markers and sketchbook, that are kept close because I want to get back into working with my art.
I also wanted to put myself under hard light, with that sort of fear and focus that I need in order to get through my classes. I’m under that blanket because I probably tired myself out.
You did well making your arm and the various objects you added fit very naturally into the base image, as if they were supposed to be there or were there all along.
The way how you handled this project was very unique and different from everyone else’s. It helps it to stand out among all the projects.
I like the use of perspective and scale to add more interest. The photo-realistic setting emphasizes the effect as well.
This piece is very interesting, I like your interpretation of the project which is different form what most of the other projects look like. Its cool how each of the components have a deep meaning to them as well.
