Self Portrait Collage

My self portrait collage is based off of one of my senior pictures. All the photos in my college are my personal photos. In the background there are two photos. These photos represent that I love traveling and flying around the world. One photo is from the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and the other is from a plane while flying over Alaska. Then my body is made up of two of the most important things to me and real make me who I am. Thats consists of a picture  of a soccer game and me pole vaulting. I purposely kept my body faintly in the background to try to show that this is what is important to me. I put all of this in a window of my favorite restaurant from Taiwan to try to represent this as a window into my life.

  1. I like the lower part of this composition but as someone said in class, I think you should put the lower part in context of the window more by maybe showing the border of the window.

  2. I appreciate the level of detail in the piece, except the eye isn’t necessarily drawn to a single area. The face is a good focal point but is washed out in a way by having too much going on outside of it. However, the detail behind the body’s silhouette is at a perfect level.

  3. I love the photo selection from a compositional perspective. Your shirt stands out, which defines the rest of your shape even though you’ve very strongly integrated other images over yourself. The image leads the eye very nicely. The only suggestion I might make would be to hint more at the top being a window. Perhaps extending it around the border of the image would complete the idea of looking through a window into your life.

  4. This is really cool. I love how you integrated different scenes and locations together without distracting from your image. The fact that you chose to obscure the eyes is important because everyone says “uhh excuse me my eyes are up here”, but you choose to rather say “uhh excuse me my personality is out there”.
