For my self-portrait, I tried to include the multiple facets of my WPI career. Currently, I am a mechanical and robotics engineering dual major. One of my primary reasons for this came when I was about ten years old and saw Iron Man for the first time. After finishing the movie, I knew I wanted to make my own suit, like most children who watched it, however, that is not a realistic career path. Instead, I’ve chosen to pursue a career in the development of defense technologies- essentially working for the military from the civilian side.
In order to portray that goal in my collage, I inserted the iconic Iron Man mask under my face to represent the desire that is always with me as well as speaks to my analytical mindset. In addition to this, I placed the Empire symbol from the Star Wars franchise and the symbol for Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity on opposing shoulders in a mimicry of the patches and tattoos that soldiers wear in order to identify themselves to others. Finally, the cavity in the center of my chest is supposed to be a comparison between the power station of some building or large robot and what I use in order to stay awake and functioning every day.
Below, you can find the pictures and links to all of the reference images I used.

Here is the original photo I used (I’m not entirely sure why it’s upside down):
Additionally, I took inspiration for my face from this picture:

I think you did a really nice job putting a lot of detail into this photo. You actually managed to give some depth to it, as if there your skin was just layered over some robotic/artificial body. The only thing I would’ve done differently would be to add some sort of shadow to the face area, as if your real face was in front of the mask.
I think it’s really cool that you would take off Iron Man’s mask to reveal the human behind him, whereas you are taking off your face to reveal the hero inside of you. This picture could be interpreted pretty interestingly. Great job overall, however I would have liked for the “powerhouse” to be more imbedded in your body rather than just sitting on top of your body. Some shadows and/or opacity changes could accomplish this.
Usually masks are worn on top of your face, so having the face removed to show Iron Man is awesome. I like the use of the warping to show depth, but I think if the background was a little bit more involved that would extend that effect. Nice work!
I like what you did in this photo, but I think the warping of the face is a bit distracting. I understand that aspect of the photo is very hard to do, but maybe if you took a different angle of your face it would of been easier to put that part in.
Your concept is really interesting and I like how you incorperated your love for robotics and national security into your picture. The monster drink power supply blends into your skin well with that extra flap of skin but the iron man face looks a little pasted on. Maybe if you feathered the edges it would look better.
