For my self portrait, created a mosaic out of 144 photos of my favorite cars, myself fishing or golfing and my family. Each image is its own layer with its own layer mask. After arranging them all, I patterned them and placed on top of the main photo of my mom, dad and myself. I then overlaid the pattern on top of the photo adjusted the shadow and highlights to my liking. Overall the Idea is that those 4 things are what make me… me and without my supportive parents none of it would be possible.

I am absolutely floored by the amount of micromanagement involved with your collage. The one thing that really stops me from seeing it as a pixelated image is the string of red cars in the top third of the image. If you had arranged them all together in a cluster in the same area, they could potentially look like leaves on a tree in the fall, which could help with the overall look of the piece.
The process in which you did this is crazy and I give you tons of credit for taking the time and putting in the work. While I like the approach you took, I think the overall picture is distracting to the little detail you put into the photo. I think if you made the opacity a little less, it would of been beneficial to the overall piece. Other than that, well done!
This must have taken a great deal of time and energy, and it shows! I always was drawn to images like this, because I like the pixel effect it has from far away, but I also like how you can take your time to look at the image close up and see lots of smaller images.
