For my Subtractive images I did a series specific to WWII. I wanted to make a statement on censorship, as this idea has gained support recently. I’ve seen online many people asking why we don’t just censor ideas and propaganda that differs from our common identity as a nation. “If we don’t see the evil, we don’t experience the evil.” I strongly disagree. When we look back in our past and try to forget, not only do we forget those who suffered – we dishonor heroes who fought against evil. In addition,
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -George Santayana

i really love your pictures and your logistics. Totally agree, and WWII is one of my favorite topics na matter it was video games, movies, or memoirs.
In terms of graphics, i think you did a really good job restoring tile texture on the first image, but the building looked dimmer than the original.
The amount of work it must have taken to make the bricks on that building look straight and natural after removing the flags is ridiculous. Kudos on your effort, better than some professional photoshoppers today!
Some of the strange shadows left behind from the flags could possibly have been removed with some selections and lightness/darkness adjustments.
What an amazing interpretation of the assignment. Very nice job on both pieces. I also like that there seems to still be some presence around the flag in the second picture which creates a really powerful feeling that I can’t quite describe.
