Oftentimes, in the middle of a particularly bad game in which goals are just constantly being scored against them, water polo goalies can feel like they don’t even exist in the cage. For that reason, I decided to try to take the goalie out. It was easier to take out the goalie’s arms and head when in front of the net or water behind it, but it was a challenge to adapt the movement of water both behind the goalie and coming off of the two arms.

I really like the concept of this subtractive art. The idea of essentially having an open net is symbolic to what you talk about. I think it also would have been cool (but wouldn’t make a lot of sense) if you removed the guy throwing the ball and had the goalie diving from the far right side of the goal.
I noticed the subtractive image is in a much lower resolution than the original picture, making it hard to tell the details. However, from what i can tell, you did a really good job handling the splash of water.
The new image is very interesting and it makes you wonder if the man with the white cap was the goalie and the player somehow got around him on a breakaway!
