steps for using video software:

(I'm writing this without the software in front of me, so some commands may be worded slightly differently - you should be able to figure it out though!)

Xmpeg:

  1. Start the program. The wizard will come up - you can cancel out of it for now.
  2. Right-click in the main window to pop up the menu - choose OPTIONS
  3. Go to the FILES section, and set an output location (browse to your folder). Do SAVE, then OK to exit the options.
  4. Right click to bring up the menu again, and do OPEN DVD-ROOT
  5. Using the "carrots" ^ ^ at either end of the timeline, select the in and out points of your video exerpt.
  6. Now, go to the menu and run the Wizard. You can just step through each of the screens it offers you, except for:
  7. On the sound screen, select the 2-Ch English track, if possible. If you don't have that track, just go with the default.
  8. On the Cropping screen, if your DVD has black horizontal bands (letterbox) on the top and bottom, uncheck "Crop."
  9. Do Finish, and it should start the encoding process.
  10. If you want to rip another clip, go to your folder and rename the first clip - each subsequent one will be named the same thing, so you need to rename them so they're not overwritten!

VideoCleaner:

  1. Do Add, and select the Output file you made in Xmpeg
  2. Go to Output Format, on the bottom of the window, and set it to DV NTSC.
  3. Set the Output Location - point it at your folder.
  4. Press Convert and it should start the conversion process!
